This voluntary 6-CE hour Internal Revenue Service Annual Federal Tax Refresher (AFTR) Course is only offered from June1, 2017 through December 31, 2017, per IRS rules.  

The IRS Annual Federal Tax Refresher (AFTR) Course must be completed by December 31, 2017, for you to be included in the IRS Directory of Federal Tax Return Preparers with Credentials and Select Qualifications

The IRS has authorized a maximum of six (6) Continuing Education (CE) credit hours for completion of the AFTR Course, regardless of how long you spend from start to finish, including the maximum of three hours (180 minutes) allowed to answer the 100-Question Final Exam.

You must complete 12 CE hours in addition to the 6 CE hour AFTR course to satisfy the AFSP requirements.   Accordingly this course is only for tax preparers who have met the 12 CE hour AFSP requirments.

  • Study Questions with in-depth answer explanations prepare you for the 100-Question Final Exam.
    • Study Questions are arranged by topic and aligned with the eLessons.
    • Each answer explanation is referenced to the eLessons through a
      "View Source" link on the answer screen.
    • Study Questions may be printed by question using your browser (PDF not available).
    • Results are displayed in a graphical format per lesson.
    • Study Questions may be reset as often as desired to improve your scores.
    • You may take as long as you want to progress through the eLessons and the Study Questions,
      starting and stopping whenever you choose.
    • However, once you start the Final Exam, the clock starts running and from that point forward
      you have three hours (180 minutes) to complete the 100-Question Final Exam.   It is an IRS rule that
      the 3-Hour timer on the Final Exam CANNOT be stopped or paused.

    • eLessons cover tax topics per the IRS required "Domain" content.
    • Time saving search function.
    • No need to try reading the legalese of IRS publications.
    • Provides critical background information aligned with the Study Questions.
    • eLessons may be printed by topic using your browser (PDF not available)..
  • Comprehensive Final Exam
    • Multiple choice questions are in the 100-Question Final Exam.
    • Minimum passing score is 70%.
    • Per IRS rules, a maximum of 3 hours is allowed to complete the Final Exam.
    • Final Exam may be taken a maximum of 4 times (most people pass it on their first or second try).
    • Final Exam "retakes" are free.
    • The Final Exam is AN OPEN BOOK test.  You may refer to the eLessons.
    • Per IRS rules, printing of the Final Exam questions is not allowed and we are also
      not permitted to tell you which Final Exam questions you answered incorrectly.
